Historic Christiansburg Station

In 1981, the more than hundred year presence of Christiansburg Station (popularly known as the Cambria Depot) nearly came to an end when a runaway engine on a siding removed the back thirty feet of the station and left the remaining rear of the building without a wall and sixteen inches out of plumb.

After the accident and following years of benign neglect (including rotting timbers, a disintegrating foundation, and broken windows), the Cambria Depot earned its first designation...a raze order posted on the front door. Such was the condition of the building when it was purchase by Helen Dorsett early in the year of 1983. It was a deal made on a handshake.

It took nearly two years to rehabilitate the old girl and another year to get her on the National Register of Historic Places in December, 1985. She has served as the corporate headquarters for Dorsett Publication since 1984, the primary Dorsett residence (back end) since 1989, and home to The Cambria Toy Station (2007).
